My primary problem with this range (which came with the house I bought) has been with the door. Three times the hinges have become bent, meaning the door does not seal properly when closed (and allows the heat to escape out the top and side of the oven). Each time I have paid my (very reliable) appliance repair man almost $300 for the new hinges. Once, in addition to the hinges bending, the interior sheet of glass cracked and broke from the heat of the oven (and, no, I hadn't banged the door shut or done anything other than reasonably use my oven). In total, I have spent $1.2K to have this oven repaired in 5 years. Last week, when the hinges bent again, my repair man called KitchenAid and asked for them to pick up the tab, since the most recent, previous failure occurred only 9 months ago. KitchenAid's response? I was clearly "abusing" my oven. Huh? Are you serious? Really? REALLY? Since when is using a product for its intended purpose (baking, roasting) an "abuse" of the product? If KitchenAid wanted its customers to only look at and admire their pretty range, then KitchenAid should clearly disclose the primary flaw of this appliance -- THE DOOR IS WAAAAAYYYY TO HEAVY FOR THE HINGE -- and alert potential customers to the fact that the range is a decorative item only. Engineer the darn door to suit the hinge (or vice versa) correctly, or compensate your customers for your engineering failure, but don't call a customer's routine and normal use of the oven "abuse"! Secondarily, the electronic buttons which set the oven temperature and the timer are forever freezing for no reason -- sometimes I can set my desired time and temperature, but equally frequently I cannot, in which I have to adjust my cooking time or temperature to suit the whims of this appliance. How exactly has KitchenAid developed a brand that it can charge such a large price premium for? I can only imagine that most of the people who buy KitchenAid ranges don't actually use them. They are, after all, very attractive to look at. In short, if you want a pretty, non-functional and overpriced appliance, this is the one for you! Alternatively, if you would like a range that has a prayer's chance of functioning as promised, and which the manufacturer stands behind when it fails, run away and don't look back!

Thermador : PRL366EG 36 Pro Grand Gas Range Stainless Steel Review

I thought I would do this as a service. I bought the 48inch outdoor grill with wok, with warming drawer, with side burners, with rotisserie, with subzero ice maker, with sub zero fridge in an integrated assembly for use in a semi-covered outdoor BBQ setup in Maui. I think the cost was over $20k and it was installed by the Thermador factory representatives. Everything was installed 5 years ago. I'll just go through a quick litany of issues. The fridge has had to be repaired twice, the IceMaker has had to have fans installed even though the specifications say that it can be installed with minimum clearance. The ice maker usually produces soggy ice - right near melting, and this is during winter months. We have had service people - also authorized work on it at least 7 times and we are presently having to put in more ducting and fans. The igniters have failed three times. The rotisserie has failed twice requiring about $300 in repair each time. The warming drawer needed complete replacement in the 2nd year and all of the fittings and electrical were deeply rusted and corroded. On top of this, I have never liked using it as it seemed uncontrollably hot. This is an LP conversion from the factory and the proper orifices were installed. When we brought up the problem to the installer servicer he first tried to solve it, but then said "they are all like this - there is no control". Last year I finally started to see if I could solve the problem and found that the continuous "infinity" adjustment controls on the front actually had no control - only on and off. They are market Off -Lite - Hi - and Lo. But none of the 3 zone controls adjusted the flame at all. We figured that something had been improperly installed. Integrated as part of this on the right side are two side burners. They work well, with continuous adjustment, as you would expect. The same with the Wok. I started probing more deeply and went back to the original manual for this model as well as two others in the series and it said that all burners have infinitely adjustable control. I finally went to the installers manual and saw the phrase: "LP options in the 48" inch version have no control". This was obviously discovered after the units were designed as whatever the problem that arose that kept them from offering this feature in the actual deliveries of their product - EVEN THOUGH THEIR INSTRUCTION MANUAL DESCRIBED IT AS A FEATURE - a feature that makes the entire BBQ useless if reasonable control of heat is important in your cooking. As I have gathered more information trying to figure out what to do next, I have learned that on Maui the authorized service men are recommending to people that they DO NOT BUY THERMADOR/BOSCH. It has been 5 years since I purchased this, so I don't know if I have any ability to claim damages, but it was never capable of fitness for use, so possibly there is a chance at some recovery, but my intent now is to warn people away from this brand. I have been doing some research and see that these are not isolated problems and that there are many brands superior to Thermador, some at quite a savings. - Just using this as a forum.

GE Profile : PB975TPWW 30 Electric Range - White Review

GE Profile : PB975TPWW 30 Electric Range - White

The two ovens are both usable. The wide coursing of the heating elements produced uniform heat in both, even when placing a baking sheet on the bottom rack position. But for this price, you darn well should get a few extra inches of heating rod. That said, the fancy extra features have turned me off. 1) The control buttons. There is an array of 9 and an array of four buttons for the upper oven on the left, and a symmetrical array of 4 and 9 for the lower oven on the right. The arrays of 4 are identical; that's good. But in the larger 9-button arrays, only the warm button is in the same place on the two arrays. The buttons you will typically use (bake button, oven light button, broil, etc) are in different places on the two arrays, and so even once you are familiar with the oven, you will be hunting and pecking. 2) The manual. It reads like a computer software manual ("for the pizza feature, select the pizza button"). It does not explain why you would want to select a "pizza feature" instead of just using "bake". Is it hotter? - No, the max temp is still 550F. What's the difference between the separate settings for fresh pizza or frozen? The manual says that "1" is for fresh, "2" is for frozen. Well, that certainly explains it to full intellectual satisfaction. Moving on to the slow cook settings; neither the manual nor the oven display reveals the temperature, but you are asked to select among four types of food and two heat levels. I used a calibrated oven and a long temperature probe to measure the temperature of 4 quarts of water, heating in a 5.5 qt ceramic slow-cook covered pot. When set to "stew" and "Lo" and "7 hr cook time", the water reached 202F by 2 hrs, full simmer of 207F at 2.5 hr, 203 F at 3 hrs, and then dropped slowly, dropping below 200F by 3.5 hr. I don't know of a cook , hoping to retain nutrients and proper food texture by a low temp slow-cooking method, who would choose to nearly boil the stew for over an hour. Using 2 quarts caused hours of frank boiling. When I tried the "beef" and "Hi" setting on 4 quarts of water, it reached 209F by 2 hr and dropped to 200F only by 3.5 hr. Any beef would be cardboard texture by then. Moving on to the "roast convection", this has nothing to do with roasting (which involves an oiled food in a uniform very hot oven). Instead, the top heating element comes on, which if not used very briefly, will char the topmost part of your otherwise evenly browned food. It is best used when one wants a broiled effect, but desires to keep the door closed. As long as GE won't engage the consumer by providing a mechanistic explanation of its dozens of settings, I would plan on using the ovens only in broil, bake, and convection modes.

We bought an NXR range at a local retailer. The good about the NXR range is that it has very nice burners, an infrared broiler and a large oven with very nice slide out racks. It also comes at a great price (1899 and always ask for the middle grate and ask for it to be free!).
The first unit arrived, in a box, and had a dent on the left front (note the oven door closes into a frame, it does not close flush like other ovens do) frame. The oven door itself was mounted crooked and the side had scratches.
Refused the unit, got a new one a few days later. Installed, tried, smelled gas. Turns out this unit had a heavy leak in the main gas line within the unit.
Returned that one as well and traded up to a Bertazonni range (slightly higher in price).
Also note that the NXR has fairly flimsy parts. The middle cover (between the burners) is flimsy and loose (it slides when cleaning). The back vent is flimsy at best. And in general it is not of high quality external materials when comparing it to a Bertazonni.
If the quality of the materials and the quality control were not so poor this would be a real steal! Alas, it is one of these "to-good-to-be-true" things.

This is my first foray into a convection oven & a glass top, I'm hooked.
This is a nice looking oven/stove. While it's somewhat easy to clean there are trade offs from the old burner style. The glass top & stainless steel need to be wiped off regularly as they show any goofs readily. The old porcelain ranges & old style burners hid smudges & messes well but when it did come time to clean it was a big job.
The glass top will scratch if you're not careful. If you use cast iron a lot you might not want the glass top. I have a large cast frying pan that I use carefully but I've still managed to scratch the top. I assume it's from my cast iron cookware even though I've checked everything for burrs on the bottom & haven't found anything that I think would scratch glass....?
The dual zone burners are great for sizing to the pan/pot. The largest is 11" & heats my 12" cast pan great!
In my opinion the oven heats a tad slow and boiling water on the top could also be quicker but maybe I'm expecting too much.
The electronic timer doesn't turn off the oven like & hoped. You can accomplish the auto off but it takes more programming.
The storage drawer is a joke. It closes crooked & jams unless you use two hands to keep it perfectly straight. The drawer is not as deep as it could be & things will fall out of the back of it easily which means you'll be on your hands & knees fishing baking sheets out from under your oven. It's very cheaply made. I don't understand why they cut some very serious corners here.

Let me start by saying before tonight, I would've rated this range with 4 stars. It looks great, it's easy to use, it's one of the only ovens with convection features in it's price range, and it's worked really well up until recently.
The last two weeks I've noticed it's taking a long time to preheat, and about twice as long to bake anything. I just hadn't made the service call yet to have someone come take a look at it. Well tonight we were baking a pork loin, and heard a loud POP, saw a flash of light in the oven, and it just stopped working. No power, no lights, nothing. We checked the circuit, there was no power surge. All of the other appliances on the circuit are fine. Thank goodness we purchased the extended protection plan, I would be soooo upset if I spent almost $1000 on an oven to have it go out after just a year. But still, it's a darn shame. When you spend that much on an appliance it should last A LOT longer than a year!!!!
